How to Wear Statement Earrings

Statement earrings can be any style - long drops, hoops, large studs, and more. What makes them a statement piece is that they are bold, striking and unique, intended to catch the eye. However, choosing the right pair can be difficult! Here are some of my tips on how to best wear statement earrings.

Don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone

Statement earrings are meant to grab attention (it’s in the name!), which is why, when choosing a pair of statement earrings – don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone. It shouldn’t really matter if a pair of statement earrings isn’t something you’d usually choose – if you like them, then go for it!

Pare back the rest of your jewellery

Statement earrings are meant to draw attention, but if you are also wearing other pieces of bold jewellery, you will be drawing focus away from the earrings. Wearing too much jewellery or multiple bold pieces can be overwhelming. If you want to get the most out of your statement earrings, wear them with little or no other jewellery and let the earrings do the talking.

Make use of them for video calls while working from home!

Just because we’re still spending most of our time indoors, at least for the time being, it doesn't mean you can’t still get dressed up and make yourself feel good. You can wear your statement earrings during video calls whilst you’re working from home or organise an online get-together with friends and family. As it’s only your head and shoulders on the camera, the earrings will make even more of an impression! You can read more about this in our blog on how to dress and accessorize for video calls.

Opt for a neutral pair if you want to make sure they go with your outfits

If you’re concerned about how to wear statement earrings with more casual outfits, then you should consider choosing a neutral pair in gold or silver. Just sticking to a pair in either gold or silver without other stones will give you a versatile pair of earrings that you can wear with most outfits. To make them a statement pair of earrings, you could go for a larger size with a highly polished surface, or an intricate design which would add a “wow” factor.

Or, choose a gemstone that works with your wardrobe

If you have a gemstone that features in other pieces of your jewellery, such as your birthstone, a wedding anniversary stone, or just one that you like, you can enhance this by selecting a pair of statement earrings that features the same gemstone. Alternatively, you could opt for some earrings that complement the colours in your wardrobe that you wear frequently. Sometimes contrasting colours can also make for a stunning look.

Don’t buy costume/mass-produced statement earrings just because you might think they are less of a ‘staple’

A good pair of timeless statement earrings is still worth investing in, even if you’re not going to be wearing them every day. For one thing, they’re far less likely to break and won’t fade or discolour like costume or mass-produced jewellery. Additionally, by buying artisanal jewellery, you support the work of local artisans and independent jewellers, who are keeping traditional practices of jewellery-making alive.

Statement earrings don’t have to be for special occasions alone, if you choose the right pair, and invest in quality, then you’ll be able to wear them with almost anything.
