There is no doubt that layered necklaces are still a trend for summer and autumn this year, and I’m a big fan of this look! There is no perfect way to create a necklace stack, but here are some tips that can help you get started on how to wear layered necklaces.
Make sure the necklaces are in varying lengths
My first piece of advice is to make sure that your necklaces are different lengths, even if only slightly. This will ensure that each piece can be seen and they don’t automatically get tangled and hidden by one another. You want all of your necklaces to stand out, after all!
Be brave and mix your metals
Some of the older jewellery “rules” might lead you to think that you have to stick with one metal or colour when it comes to wearing layered necklaces. However, this is not the case. I love to mix metals and will always encourage people to express themselves by creating a unique and personal jewellery stack, which can include gold, silver and rose gold, as well as gems of different colours.
Having said that, if you do prefer one particular metal or colour, you can also create a very cohesive and elegant look with just the one. It’s all about personal preference and what works best for you!
Inject some colour with a gemstone necklace in the stack
Metal necklace stacks look fantastic, but why not inject some fun and colour by introducing a gemstone necklace as one of the layers?
You can opt for your birthstone, a stone that has a special meaning or importance to you, or simply your favourite colour! This will help to create a truly personal look that will be sure to impress.
Choose necklaces that complement one another
To create a cohesive look, you want to select necklaces that complement one another. Perhaps there is a particular theme you want to go for in your stack or you could pair a couple of more delicate chains with a bolder statement pendant. Mix your everyday necklace with some bolder pieces for special occasions and you'll get maximum wear out of your jewellery wardrobe!
Don’t be afraid to experiment with different shapes and textures
While you want to pick necklaces that complement each other, this doesn’t mean that you have to stick to really similar styles. Be brave when choosing the shapes and textures - smooth with rough can look great for example, as can round shapes with square ones.
Don’t overwhelm the layering
While a balance of chunky and delicate pieces can look really great, if you add one really chunky statement piece that hides the other necklaces, this can ruin the overall effect of the layering. Choose with careful consideration and make sure each piece is given the respect it deserves!
Pair layered necklaces with an open neck shirt or top to show them off
While we are still experiencing some warmer (albeit temperamental) weather here in the UK, why not make the most of it by wearing shirts with an open neck which really showcase your layered necklaces as much as possible?
Add two pendants to the same chain
Another way to embrace wearing multiple pendants without stacking chains is to wear two pendants on the same chain. This can look really elegant and still allows you to get wear out of your favourite pieces. For example, choose your two favourite gemstones to wear together, or pair your birthstone or favourite gemstone with a simple silver charm pendant.
