Introducing the Indian Ocean Collection from Milina London

I am really excited about our newest launch – our fine jewellery collection inspired by the night skies of the Indian Ocean. We have combined organic textures with a contemporary look to create a collection that is natural, beautiful and timeless.

The initial inspiration

When I first moved into the world of jewellery, I briefly worked with gold and diamonds before I fell in love with silver and created Milina London. Since then, sterling silver has been the metal we’ve used for many years.

We have been very lucky to have lovely regular clients that truly appreciate our ethos and the way we work. Many of them have asked me to make bespoke pieces for them using gold and platinum, and also precious stones such as diamonds and emeralds. They have constantly encouraged me to make more fine jewellery, which led to the creation of our new range.

The design

I knew that I wanted this fine jewellery collection to be closely linked to natural beauty. I was particularly inspired by my childhood growing up in India: the beautiful warm waters of the Indian Ocean which are a wonderful childhood memory of many holidays with my family, and the textures and feel of the lovely sand while I walked in the evenings, watching the sun go down and the moon rise. My vision of the tropical night time waters also included celestial qualities, such as the image of craters on the moon and its luminous glow on the ocean.

Indian Ocean Collection Moodboard

I wanted each piece to feel as though it could have been plucked from the Indian Ocean or the radiant heavens above. Organic, textured moon-like gold discs are studded with constellations of black or white diamonds and some adorned with freshwater pearl droplets. I wanted to combine an organic and pure aesthetic with a modern style to design jewellery which emphasises natural beauty.

The creation

Reinspired to test the waters with a fine jewellery collection, I returned to our artisans in India who helped us to create our range. This fine jewellery collection has been lovingly handmade and the jewellery-making techniques of our artisans have been handed down through generations of families. We sustainably source the highest quality materials that go into each piece. Each piece of jewellery is more than just an accessory, it is a piece of art, designed to be handed down from mother to daughter and beyond.

The collection

The final result of my initial ideas, and the amazing talent of our Indian artisans, is a capsule collection of 12 pieces. The collection includes earrings, bracelets and necklaces which have been handcrafted in 9 karat and 18 karat white, yellow and rose gold, with the finest gemstones and freshwater pearls.
